Joint STARbowl event of ESCP’s STAR Centre and King’s Centre for Sustainable Business (CSB)
Digitalisation for Sustainability
Digital technologies are playing an increasingly vital role in addressing sustainability challenges and achieving corporate sustainability goals. During this event we will delve into how companies can use and harness these technologies to progress towards net-zero, efficiently manage and close energy and material cycles, and promote ecological and social regeneration across global supply chains.
In the digital age, the integration of digital technologies into business operations necessitates careful consideration of numerous challenges. We will explore the extensive data requirements of digital technologies, addressing critical issues such as data privacy and security.
Participants will also learn about the challenges posed by algorithmic dependency, including the reliance on tools whose inner workings are not fully understood and the risks of phenomena like AI hallucinations. For example, how much can we rely on the environmental footprints calculated by algorithms that are black boxes to most users?
STARbowl meets King’s Centre for Sustainable Business (CSB)
At ESCP's forth STARbowl event 'Digitalisation for Sustainability', jointly organised by ESCP Business School Berlin and King’s Centre for Sustainable Business (CSB), we shed light on unintended and intended, positive and negative consequences of digitalisation for sustainability.
This STARbowl is the forth in a series of STAR Centre events dedicated to rethinking business models. STARbowl #1 dealt with moving from compliance to business model innovation, STARbowl #2 was dedicated to issues of business model impact assessment, and STARbowl #3 pushed the boundaries and explores new territory beyond sustainability.
Opening statements by CSB Center Professor Jonatan Pinkse and Professor Florian Lüdeke-Freund will introduce the topic of the evening. Special highlights: Stephan König, Group Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Strategy at Telekom, Tomas van der Heijden, the CEO of Briink, and Dr. Daniel Simon, Deputy Head of the AI and Sustainability Unit, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), will provide inspiration for the subsequent FishBowl discussion that will be open to all participants.
This dialogue event will take place on 28 November 2024, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the ESCP Business School Berlin, Heubnerweg 8-10, 14059 Berlin.
